Hockey Fights Cancer Campaign
Help Pediatric Patients and Their Families Access
Integrative Cancer Care
by Donating to The Bryan Murray Legacy Fund
The Senators Community Foundation, Ottawa Integrative Cancer Centre (OICC) Foundation and the CHEO Foundation are teaming up to raise funds to support subsidized integrative cancer care for pediatric patients and their families, in the month of November, as part of the NHL Hockey Fights Cancer campaign.
A cancer diagnosis is extremely difficult for children, adolescents and for their families. Integrative cancer care given concurrently with chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy can help to improve a patient’s quality of life and may help to decrease side effects of cancer treatments, supporting physical, mental and emotional well-being.
Integrative cancer care offered at The Centre for Health Innovation (the new home of the OICC) includes naturopathic medicine, acupuncture, integrative medicine, psychotherapy, nutritional guidance, massage therapy, and yoga therapy, to name a few. All of these therapies are complementary and supportive of hospital-based care.
“The OICC was amazing at keeping me going. It was crazy the things I was doing while on chemo. I was hanging out with friends at night. I was going out to music festivals. I was living pretty close to a normal 16-year old’s life. And I was having two brain tumours at the same time. I think it’s just amazing that the OICC made that possible for me.” – Raffi
