Join Craig Savill for his half marathon run on May 28th in the Scotiabank Charity Challenge
during Tamarack Race Weekend!
Race day will mark one year and two days since my last chemo treatment. Although I had to give up my bib last year,
nothing will stop me from completing at this year’s Half.
Team Savill donations will be going to the OICC which helped me with my battle against Hodgkins Lymphoma.
How long have you been coming to the OICC?
I first heard about the OICC shortly after being diagnosed with cancer in Nov 2015. My first appointment was in January 2016 and I was a regular fixture throughout my chemo treatments.
I still visit every few months to make sure I am on the right path.
What is your reason for signing up and participating in this year’s Ottawa Race Weekend?
My dad was a marathon runner, competing in the Boston Marathon and the Nijmegen March,
so I think running is in my blood. Last year, I signed up for the Ottawa Half but was diagnosed with cancer only a couple of weeks later. Unfortunately I had to give up my bib knowing that I would have to put this goal on hold. This year the Ottawa Marathon Weekend holds special meaning as I will get my chance to race and May 28th will mark 1 year and 2 days since my last chemo treatment.
Where is your favourite place to walk or run in Ottawa or the surrounding area?
Running along the Rideau Canal and the Ottawa River is a must for anyone living or visiting Ottawa.
What is your fundraising goal for this year’s Ottawa Race Weekend? Have you reached this goal?
The OICC’s fundraising goal at the Ottawa Marathon Weekend is $25,000. I hope to be a big part of reaching that goal! Still some ways to go.
How will you celebrate finishing your walk or run on Race Weekend day?!
My wife is also running in the Ottawa Half so I will be celebrating with her and my kids at the finish line. There will be plenty of sweaty hugs and I’m sure a few tears as well.
Please tell us a little bit about yourself.
As a financial Advisor at Sun Life Financial, a curler and a family man, my days are quite full. To relax I love being outdoors and active including hiking, camping and swimming. At night in the summer you will probably find me in front of a bonfire roasting up sausages and s’mores (hint use aluminum foil to make the best s’mores).
